Multi-state pharmacy burglary sentence highlights controlled-substance security

Deontae Britton received eighty months in prison for a conspiracy involving twenty pharmacy burglaries across three states. DOJ describes rapid after-hours entries and theft of controlled drugs. His sentence is separate from another participant’s sentence and a third person’s still-pending case.

What happened

DOJ’s October 7 announcement reports that Deontae Britton, also known as Deaundre Blount, was sentenced to eighty months in prison and three years of supervised release. The conspiracy involved twenty pharmacies in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia between January and April 2022. The release describes after-hours forced entry, damage to doors and locks, and visits lasting less than two minutes while controlled substances were taken for unlawful distribution. The historical burglary period is distinct from the current sentence date.

The stolen products included opioids and other controlled medications, making physical security and prompt inventory reconciliation connected concerns. The release reports a separate forty-month sentence for William Sherod III and states that Harold Dorman’s case remained pending; Britton’s disposition should not be attributed to every participant. The case supports review of after-hours detection, entry protection and a response that can establish what stock is missing. It does not announce a new universal security deadline or establish that any particular pharmacy control would have prevented every burglary.
