What happened

CMS's September 1, 2026 memo set the second CY 2027 Medicare Plan Finder benefit and drug-pricing preview for September 8 at 6 a.m. through September 11 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern. That one-time window had ended by this October 4 edition. The memo reported no known issues and listed resolved display problems including D-SNP Part A cost-sharing, prior-authorization/referral labels and drug-tier displays. Those statements concerned the memo's preview status; they do not prove that every plan reviewed its own data or that every organization-specific discrepancy was resolved.

CMS encouraged comparison with HPMS benefit reports, noting that changes submitted after the preview's data-as-of date would not appear. The preview used 2026 Medicare-defined rates because 2027 rates were not yet released at the memo date. Drug pricing depended on submitted formulary, excluded-drug and pricing files; it showed each benefit phase without applying that phase's threshold, and could show full cash price for an unavailable location or supply frequency. CMS recommended representative comments for widespread issues rather than every instance. These limits explain why a preview result needs comparison with the underlying submission and cannot be read as a final beneficiary cost quote.

Why it matters

Documented preview limits help distinguish data defects from expected displays. Closing the milestone does not certify an organization’s review or annual enrollment readiness.

Implementation playbook

  1. Compare each CY 2027 plan-benefit preview with its HPMS benefit report and record exceptions, including D-SNP Part A cost sharing and prior-authorization or referral displays. Managed Care · Due 2026-09-10
  2. Compare drug-pricing preview results with submitted formulary, excluded-drug and drug-pricing files, then submit representative CMS comments for each distinct defect before the preview closes at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Managed Care · Due 2026-09-11
