Medi-Cal requires quarterly validation of the public fee for service provider directory beginning October 1, 2026, with Provider Portal Transaction Center access at stake
Oct 4, 2026 edition · GC-2026-0015 · Published 2026-10-04 · Version 2 · Final
Medi-Cal’s first quarterly directory-validation window opened October 1; all survey questions must be saved within 45 days to protect organizational Transaction Center access.
What happened
The Medi-Cal directory-validation process described in DHCS's August 26, 2026 notice began October 1. Provider Portal administrators must answer all Public Fee-For-Service Provider Directory survey questions within 45 days and update or validate the information within 45 days in each later quarter. They must identify whether each organization service location accepts new fee-for-service patients, managed-care patients or both, then save the directory. The notice states the opening date and 45-day period without supplying a calendar end date; October 1 is the start of the window, not the final submission deadline.
Failure to complete the quarterly updates results in every user in the organization losing Provider Portal Transaction Center access. Affected users should contact their administrator to update the directory and restore access; the Telephone Service Center supports portal-access issues and Provider Enrollment handles other directory questions. DHCS's October 1 Notice of Change points providers to course PP401PNC through the Medi-Cal Learning Portal, requiring registration and a user profile to view it. The training notice supports the existing directory process; it does not replace the actual required survey submission or prove that an organization completed it.

Why it matters
A missed directory update can interrupt organization-wide portal transactions. Recurring ownership and accurate service-location data are therefore operational controls, not merely a contact-list exercise.
Recommended action
Assign a primary and backup administrator, verify service-location acceptance information, complete and save the survey within the stated window and retain confirmation. Calendar later quarterly validation and the access-restoration escalation path.
Implementation playbook
- Inventory every Medi-Cal Provider Portal organization identifier the organization holds and identify the current administrator for each. Provider Enrollment · Due 2026-09-18
- Name a primary and a backup administrator per organization identifier and confirm both can reach the Provider Portal Directory survey. Provider Enrollment · Due 2026-09-25
- Confirm with patient access and the service line owners, per service location, whether the location is accepting new fee for service patients, managed care patients, or neither. Patient Access · Due 2026-10-09
- Complete and save the first directory validation inside the window that opens October 1, 2026, and record the submission date. This target date sits well inside the 45 day window rather than at its end. Provider Enrollment · Due 2026-10-31
- Put the validation on a recurring quarterly calendar with the named owners, and confirm the escalation path if Provider Portal Transaction Center access is lost. Revenue Cycle · Due 2026-11-13
