Medi-Cal adds code 90616 influenza vaccine benefit
Oct 11, 2026 edition · GC-2026-0279 · Published 2026-10-11 · Version 3 · Final
Medi-Cal adds influenza vaccine code 90616 from August 6 service dates and lists its allowable modifiers. The notice pairs that benefit update with conditional reprocessing and existing corrected-claim procedures.
What happened
The October 9 announcement identifies 90616 for the specified intramuscular trivalent mRNA influenza vaccine as a benefit for services on or after August 6, 2026. It lists SA, SB, UD, U7, and 99 as allowable modifiers. The retroactive benefit date therefore differs from publication, and the named code and modifiers need to match the actual billed service rather than being applied to any influenza product.
DHCS says an EPC will reprocess appropriately submitted claims denied because system changes were not yet in place. Providers may also elect corrected resubmission under the manual's claim-inquiry and timeliness instructions. Updated manual sections will be issued later. This describes a route for qualifying system-related denials, not proof of completed payment or a waiver of every billing defect; reconciling denials against any resubmission helps avoid duplicate handling.
