Jorge J. Figueroa, M.D.: DEA registration order

DEA ordered Jorge Figueroa's registration revoked effective October 29 based on mandatory federal health-program exclusion following a prior racketeering-related plea.

What happened

DEA's Jorge J. Figueroa decision was signed September 21 and published September 29, 2026, with an October 29 effective date. The agency found that, following a December 2017 federal guilty plea, HHS OIG mandatorily excluded him from Medicare, Medicaid and all federal health care programs beginning April 19, 2018 for at least 15 years. The decision uses that mandatory exclusion as a basis for revoking DEA registration; it is not a new 2026 criminal conviction.

After finding adequate service and no hearing request, DEA treated the allegations as admitted through default. The decision explains that mandatory, rather than permissive, exclusion is the relevant statutory basis and that the underlying conviction need not involve controlled substances. It orders revocation and denial of specified pending renewal, modification and additional-registration applications in New Jersey. Exclusion status and DEA authority are related here but remain distinct records with different purposes and dates. Screening should preserve that distinction and verify the particular entity and legal basis rather than assume every type of exclusion automatically has the same DEA consequence.
