Magnolia mental-health provider pleads guilty to billing nonexistent Medicaid services

Tekiyah McLeod pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud and aggravated identity theft involving nonexistent Medicaid mental-health services. She admitted using a nurse practitioner’s name and NPI without consent. DOJ distinguishes approximately $477,872 billed from $453,323 received; sentencing remained scheduled for December 16.

What happened

DOJ’s October 2 release reports Tekiyah McLeod’s guilty plea to healthcare fraud and aggravated identity theft. She served as registered agent for nLove Community Services LLC, which purported to provide mental-health therapy to Medicaid beneficiaries. McLeod admitted billing approximately $477,872 for therapy never provided, including purported services to herself. She used a nurse practitioner’s name and National Provider Identifier without the practitioner’s knowledge or consent, and received approximately $453,323 from Medicaid. Claimed amounts and payments received are separate measures here.

The court accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for December 16; McLeod remained on bond in the dated release. DOJ described potential healthcare-fraud imprisonment and a mandatory consecutive identity-theft term, but did not report an imposed sentence. The unauthorized use of the practitioner’s identity is also not evidence that the practitioner participated. For providers reviewing their own billing, the admitted conduct connects encounter evidence, rendering-provider authorization and claim submission. A valid NPI appearing on a claim does not by itself demonstrate that its holder provided or authorized the reported service.
