HHS launches a voluntary healthy-lifestyle commitment for health centers
Oct 18, 2026 edition · GC-2026-0381 · Published 2026-10-18 · Version 1 · Announced
The October 14 initiative encourages prevention, nutrition education and community connections in HRSA-supported health centers. Participation creates no new federal requirement or standard of care and does not affect HRSA funding eligibility or receipt.
What happened
HHS and HRSA launched the Health Center Healthy Lifestyle Commitment on October 14. The voluntary initiative encourages health centers to integrate nutrition, physical activity, healthy sleep and prevention into everyday care. It also encourages use of patient education materials associated with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025–2030, and resources on HRSA’s health-centers-and-nutrition webpage.
The announcement describes practical activities such as connecting patients with fresh-produce and community programs, training the prevention workforce and providing actionable information to families. It expressly states that participation establishes no new federal requirements or standards of care and that a center’s participation decision will not affect eligibility for or receipt of HRSA funding. Those qualifications are material: the initiative is a program option, rather than a new grant condition or mandatory clinical protocol.
